Hany Salaam | A university for all

Georgetown University has gained over the decades a reputation for embracing students from all cultures, paths of life, ethnicities, social backgrounds, religions, genders etc… On campus, each student will find in the various 350 clubs and centers, other people who share the same interests and goals. Alumni and entrepreneurs, like Hany Salaam, have also invested over the years to help Georgetown University strive and provide students with a one of a kind college experience.

The Salaam Intercultural Resource Center that houses the MSFS (Master of Science in Foreign Services) programme was established by a grant from the Salaam Foundation in 1989 by former president Jimmy Carter.  The man behind the grant and the idea of providing students with such a center was businessman and entrepreneur Hany Salaam who chose this endeavor to honor the memory of his late father Mohammad Salaam.

The Salaam Intercultural Resource Center is an ode to Mohamad Salaam´s life´s work as an educator and philanthropist.  His son, Hany Salaam, chose to continue in his father´s charitable steps and allow the students of Georgetown to meet up in a space that not only provides exclusive educational tools like lockers, computers, telephone, scanners, printers, and round-the-clock coffee but also encourages group viewing of programs that fuel informal discussions of international affairs. The center includes a large conference room and organizes high profile seminars aimed at the promotion of a better international and cultural understanding.

This intercultural space also offers library, and offices for faculty and staff, which are regularly available to advise and consult with students who are majoring in Master of Science in Foreign Affairs. The Salaam center allows students to meet on campus and converse with alumni, staff, professors and colleagues about their projects as well as current international foreign affairs while sipping coffee and enjoying the panoramic view of Washington D.C.

It is to be noted that businessman and philanthropist Hany Salaam has also been known to personally sponsor the education of many deserving students. The latter get to experience the stellar education that Georgetown University offers and through that grant, they are able to pursue their dreams, unlock their potential and have the opportunity in life to fulfill their dreams.
